A LAMP for Schools?
How about creating a standard framework of commonly useful FLOSS School components? I'm thinking of a LAMP equiv. for School software. Perhaps one for each Becta Conceptual Architecture area?
Advantages could be easier selection, config, training etc. so eases accreditation and qualifiaction. It could form a focus for other FLOSS projects deployment models giving easy installation of extra software.
Disadvantage could limiting choice of FLOSS. SteveLee
- SchoolTool is a LAMP project. Although they're using Python instead of PHP, it's still LAMP! JohnIngleby. Yeah the P == Perl, Python or PHP SteveLee
Remember that LAMP is a specific statck for webservers and though thin client solutions have much to offer schools I was thinking in more general terms of a standard set of components that together act as a common platform for school FLOSS. FLOSS 'products' could target it as the platform they work on in the same way that products target LAMP now. This would be more flexable and Open than standardising on a single product in any area (e.g. moodle). It may be unworkable as there are so many possible variables including functional area (desktop or network). SteveLee
