RepRap: Bath Replicating Rapid Prototyper Project
From Schoolforge-UK
CNN has this article about RepRap: The Bath University Replicating Rapid Prototyper Project, a machine that can copy itself and manufacture everyday objects quickly and cheaply. What has this to do with FLOSS in education? Well, all the plans and documentation are freely available under the GPL. Moreover, the machine can make a copy of its major components (apart from a few easily-obtainable items), although it's not capable of self-assembly. So it could provide an excellent vehicle for teaching about robotic devices and self-replication. The above web site provides further background.
