Pool Business and Enterprise College
From Schoolforge-UK
We are a 800 pupil secondary, situated in the west of Cornwall. Originally Pool School and Community College, the school changed it's name after it gained specialist school status in 2004.
The school currently has around 300 machines on a windows 2003 domain, clients running XP.
The pupils log on and drives are mapped through group policy to map drives to their own area on the file server and a shared public area. Of all my servers the linux (centos) file server is by far and away the most reliable and consistent. I rarely have to do any kind of serious maintenance with it.
The web connection is through the SWGFL and we use another centos server to run apache for our website, which itself uses the joomla cms and a template from edugeek.net. It also hosts our email server using dovecot and a squirrelmail front end for webmail access. The school has also installed the moodle VLE of course.
We also use some smaller oss applications around the school. For example, the ICT room booking system uses MRBS.
I'd love to hear from any other educational institutions using open source in cornwall, or indeed anyone intrested in adopting it.
