Open Webmail

Open Webmail is a web-based email system, such as Hotmail. It runs on top of Apache, and can use either Sendmail or Postfix as a backend.

It is packed full of extra features which have proved invaluable, such as a calendar, Java based SSH terminal, and web based access to your user area on the email server, allowing users to access files remotely.

It is extremely easy to install, and the HTML help that comes with it is extremely verbose, and ideal for users who have never used a webmail system before.

I like it because my users can access it FROM anywhere, regardless of platform, and I haven't had to try and integrate the Linux box INTO an otherwise Windows network, making it ideal for small schools that just want to have internal (or even external!) email, quickly, and best of all, for free :)
