MIAS OpenZIS
From Schoolforge-UK
The OpenZIS project was started in late 2003, but went quiet before the end of that year. Recently (in mid-2006) Tom Hoffman and Matt Jezorek relaunched OpenZIS with a new website - see http://www.eschoolnews.com/eti/2006/06/001423.php
OpenZIS aims to implement the SIF specification 1.5r1 using Java with the OpenSADK supporting Java, PHP, Python, Perl, ASP, ASP.NET and others
Participation from members of the Schoolforge-UK community would no doubt add considerable impetus to the project.
It would be necessary to develop a SIMS "Client Agent" to interoperate with OpenZIS, If we were to develop a UK SIMS client agent as a FLOSS project (very likely using the SIMS COM API) this would differ from the "DIY" option. It would require a generic client agent component that can be used to access SIMS via the OpenZIS.
A recent development is that Tom Hoffman has started work on a TinyZIS, an agile barebones ZIS. See Tom's blog post on progress and the launch.
