MIAS Do nothing

The European Standards Organisation (CEN) are believed to be working on a European version of the SIF specification, and Becta are committed to developing the SIF approach in UK.

So even if we do nothing, there will be an official interoperability specification for school MIS at some time in the future. Based on this, one or more of the proprietary software suppliers will be forced to provide a software implementation.

The timescale for this is unknown. In addition, what is the likelihood that such an eventual solution will be an Open Standard that can implemented as FLOSS?
