There were some minor last minutes changes to the FLOSSIE 2006 Program. Overall a positive and upbeat conference with a variety of excellent presentations and INGOTS assessor training. The spectre of BSF and it possible damaging effect on innovation and FOSS usage was a concern. A demonstration edubuntu LTSP network using old recycled PCs was also provided.

These are the actions agreed at the plenary discussion

Promoting easy demonstration and routes into schools

  • Thin client cybercafes
  • Adding a plug and play Linux/LTSP system to a proprietary network
  • Bootable nics
  • OpenOffice, INGOTs
  • Promoting open source services

Reaching LEAs, schools and organisations

  • Schoolforge as a focus for campaigning
  • BSF – bring it before the communities to organise a response
  • Refuting TCO FUD – Becta to be approached
  • Seminar at NAACE
  • Publish an information pack – review website
  • NUS, political parties - conferences

Schools business / enterprise week etc

  • Bring OS businesses into schools
  • School governors
